HEC shuts down universities in Lahore and Multan due to severe smog.

LAHORE: The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has closed universities and colleges in Lahore and Multan due to the smog covering the cities. All universities in these areas have been instructed to move their classes online to ensure the safety of students.
According to an official notification, all schools in Punjab except those in Murree will remain closed until November 24. This decision was made to protect the health of students and the public from the harmful effects of smog.
The Punjab government has also taken steps to reduce the impact of smog by limiting outdoor activities. They have urged people to avoid going outside unless necessary and to wear masks when they do.
Earlier, the government had implemented a lockdown in Lahore and Multan three days a week to control the smog.
In a press conference, Senior Minister for Information and Environment Protection, Marriyum Aurangzeb, warned that smog is a serious health risk, similar to the dangers posed by COVID-19. She stressed that everyone must take the necessary precautions to stay safe.
