IMF delegation to arrive in Pakistan on March 3 for economic review

Islamabad – A nine-member delegation from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), led by Nathan Porter, is set to arrive in Pakistan on March 3 for a comprehensive economic review, sources from the Ministry of Finance confirmed. According to officials, the discussions will take place in two phases. The initial phase will focus on technical aspects, while policy-level negotiations will follow in the second phase. The IMF team is also expected to provide recommendations for Pakistan’s budget for the fiscal year 2025-26.

Finance ministry sources indicated that any potential relief for the salaried class would depend on a successful agreement with the IMF. The delegation will hold meetings with key institutions, including the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Energy, Planning Commission, and the State Bank of Pakistan. Further discussions are scheduled with the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA), National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA), and other relevant departments.

Additionally, the IMF team will conduct separate negotiations with the provincial governments of Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Balochistan. Meanwhile, a four-member technical delegation, which arrived earlier on Monday, is already engaged in discussions with officials in Punjab and Balochistan.
