International Women’s Day 2025 celebrated worldwide

The world is celebrating International Women’s Day 2025 today (Saturday), including Pakistan, to highlight the importance of women’s rights and their role in society.
This year’s theme, “For All Women and Girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment,” emphasizes the need for gender equality and swift action to eliminate barriers and biases that hinder women’s progress in personal and professional spheres.
A Global Movement for Women’s Rights
International Women’s Day dates back to February 28, 1909, when it was first observed in the United States, following a declaration by the Socialist Party of America. It later gained significance globally, especially after the 1911 Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire, which highlighted unsafe working conditions for women.
The idea of a global women’s day emerged in the 20th century amid rapid industrialization and economic expansion, leading to protests for better labor rights and equal opportunities. Today, it is commemorated at the United Nations level and recognized as a national holiday in several countries.
Women’s Struggle for Equality
International Women’s Day is more than just a celebration—it represents decades of struggle for justice, peace, and development. Women from all backgrounds, regardless of ethnicity, language, or culture, unite to reaffirm their commitment to equal rights and empowerment.
