Iran-Israel Tensions: Iran Seriously Considering Closing the Strait of Hormuz

As tensions escalate between Iran and Israel, Tehran is now seriously considering closing the Strait of Hormuz — the world’s most critical oil shipping route — according to The News.

Iranian MP Esmail Kosari, a member of the national security commission, confirmed that the closure is under review amid ongoing missile and airstrike exchanges in the region.

The Strait of Hormuz links the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman and the Arabian Sea. It lies between Iran, Oman, and the UAE and serves as the only marine route into the Persian Gulf.

Nearly 20% of the world’s oil passes through this narrow channel, making it a vital global energy lifeline. At its thinnest, the strait is just 33km wide, with vulnerable shipping lanes that could easily be impacted by any military action.
