Iran Reopens Airspace for International Flights After Temporary Closure

Iran reopens airspace for international flights after a temporary closure that disrupted regional air travel. According to the Iranian Civil Aviation Authority, all airports across the country have resumed regular domestic and international operations.
Tehran – In a significant development, the Iranian Civil Aviation Authority has officially announced the reopening of Iran’s airspace for international flights, marking a major step toward normalising operations after recent restrictions.
According to Iran’s official state news agency, all major airports across the country have resumed local and international flight operations as per their regular schedules. This decision reflects a stabilised aviation infrastructure and aims to support smoother travel and commerce throughout the region.
However, Isfahan and Tabriz airports will operate flights only between 5:00 AM and 6:00 PM, due to ongoing logistical and infrastructure upgrades. Authorities confirmed that these airports will become fully operational as soon as essential support services are restored.
Pakistan Extends Airspace Ban for Indian Aircraft
Meanwhile, in a separate but geopolitically significant move, Pakistan has extended its airspace closure for Indian aircraft for an additional month. According to the Airports Authority of Pakistan, a NOTAM (Notice to Airmen) has been issued, extending the restriction until July 23, 2025.
The extended ban applies to all Indian commercial, military, and registered aircraft, including those on lease. These aircraft remain prohibited from using Pakistani airspace, leading to considerable financial and operational impacts for Indian airlines.
Aviation experts estimate that Indian carriers are incurring millions of dollars in daily losses due to this restriction. Wide-body aircraft such as Boeing 777s and Airbus A330S are being forced to take detours, adding 2–4 hours to their usual flight times, particularly on routes to Europe and the Middle East.
