The petition, submitted by citizen Tanveer Sarwar, contends that the Constitution of Pakistan does not provide for the office of Deputy Prime Minister. The petitioner argues that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s decision to appoint Ishaq Dar to this position is unconstitutional. Furthermore, the petition claims that Ishaq Dar, as a senator, is not eligible to hold the office of Deputy Prime Minister under the existing legal framework.
Sarwar has asked the court to declare Dar’s appointment as Deputy Prime Minister null and void, calling it a violation of constitutional provisions.
This legal challenge comes on the heels of a similar petition filed in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Sher Afzal Marwat, who also raised objections over the appointment.
The LHC will now review the case and determine whether Ishaq Dar’s appointment as Deputy Prime Minister stands in accordance with the country’s Constitution.
