James Vince criticises the ECB’s double standards on PSL and IPL participation

English cricketer James Vince has raised concerns over the England and Wales Cricket Board’s (ECB) double standards regarding the Pakistan Super League (PSL) and the Indian Premier League (IPL).
In a recent statement, Vince pointed out that the PSL is a shorter tournament, and players participating in it are not overly deprived of domestic cricket opportunities. In contrast, he argued, the IPL is a much longer competition, and it may not be appropriate for domestic players to participate in it.
Vince questioned why players are allowed to participate in the IPL but not the PSL, suggesting that the difference in the ECB’s policies could stem from the boards’ mutual relationships. He also mentioned that if more English players were picked in the PSL draft, it could have led to more players opting out of their domestic red-ball contracts. However, due to concerns over No Objection Certificates (NOCs), PSL teams have generally refrained from picking many English players.
The English batter further criticized the ECB’s new policy, claiming it is not beneficial for English cricketers.
Notably, Vince recently cancelled his red-ball contract to participate in the PSL. He has decided to forgo the English domestic season in favour of playing exclusively white-ball cricket for Hampshire this year. Vince has also stepped down from leading Hampshire in the County Championship.
Vince has signed a new contract with his county, focusing solely on white-ball cricket, and he will be part of Karachi Kings for the upcoming PSL 10.
