Joe Root becomes second-highest run-scorer in test cricket

England’s Joe Root scored a brilliant 150 against India in the Old Trafford Test, becoming the second-highest run-scorer in Test cricket history with 13,409 runs, surpassing Australia’s Ricky Ponting (13,378). Only Sachin Tendulkar (15,921) remains ahead.

During his innings, Root also overtook legends Rahul Dravid and Jacques Kallis. It was his 38th Test century, equalling Kumar Sangakkara. In terms of centuries, only Ponting (41), Kallis (45), and Tendulkar (51) are ahead.

Root now holds the record for the most Test centuries (12) against India by any batter. Most home centuries (9) against a single opposition — breaking Don Bradman’s record of 8 against England.
