K-Electric Consumers May Get Relief as Power Tariff

KARACHI – In what could be a significant relief for millions of electricity consumers in Karachi, the power tariff is expected to decrease by Rs6.62 per unit.
K-Electric, the power supply company for Karachi, has submitted a request to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) seeking a reduction in electricity rates under the monthly fuel adjustment charges for February.
NEPRA has scheduled a public hearing on K-Electric’s application for April 16, during which the proposed reduction will be reviewed.
If approved, the cut in electricity rates is likely to provide relief of over Rs 6.66 billion to K-Electric consumers, offering much-needed financial ease amid rising living costs.
This development follows an earlier announcement by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif regarding a notable reduction in electricity prices, which he termed a major step toward providing relief to the general public.
