KE electricity duty payments to the Sindh Government still pending

Karachi Electric (KE) has yet to begin payment of over Rs 33 billion in outstanding electricity duty to the Sindh government, despite multiple orders from the Public Accounts Committee (PAC). KE has been neglecting its payment obligations for several years, leaving the Sindh government with significant arrears.

The PAC had directed KE to initiate payments for the current electricity duty, but the power company has failed to comply with the committee’s decision. In response to the lack of progress, the Sindh Energy Department has informed the Chief Minister about the lack of any substantial development regarding the settlement of these dues.

In a bid to address the ongoing issue, a special committee of the Sindh Assembly, focusing on power distribution companies, has scheduled a meeting for December 4. The CEO of KE has been summoned to the meeting to discuss the pending payments and the company’s failure to follow through with the PAC’s directives.
