Digital Payment System
Peshawar – In a major step towards digital transformation, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has announced plans to introduce a Universal Digital Payment System, making the province the first in Pakistan to implement a cashless economy.

Branded as “Cashless Khyber Pakhtunkhwa”, the initiative aims to streamline transactions across businesses, public services, and private payments by making digital payments mandatory. A comprehensive strategy has been developed, assigning clear responsibilities and timelines to relevant departments, institutions, and district administrations.

The system will operate in collaboration with mobile companies offering online payment services and will also support offline transactions. To ensure widespread adoption, data collection will be conducted at the village council level, covering shops, stalls, vendors, and kiosks.

As part of the transition, all businesses, public transport services, and commercial centers will be required to display QR codes for digital payments. A regulatory framework will be put in place under the leadership of district administrations, supported by a public awareness campaign to facilitate a smooth rollout.
