KP CM Announces

In a gesture of goodwill for the upcoming Eidul Fitr celebrations, the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has announced a two-month reduction in sentences for prisoners. The decision, which applies to prisoners convicted of minor offences, was confirmed in a notification issued by the provincial Home Department.

The sentence reduction does not extend to those convicted of serious crimes such as terrorism, murder, or kidnapping. It is specifically targeted at individuals serving sentences for less severe offences, offering them a chance for early release ahead of the Eid festivities.

This announcement comes as Pakistan prepares to celebrate Eidul Fitr, marking the conclusion of the holy month of Ramadan, with the holiday expected to fall on March 30 or 31, depending on the moon sighting.

Earlier this week, President Asif Ali Zardari granted a special 180-day sentence reduction for prisoners across Pakistan on the occasion of Pakistan Day and Eidul Fitr 2025, as per his powers under Article 45 of the Constitution.
