The Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) has ceased permanent hiring for employees and officers. Future recruitments will be on a contractual basis, and existing engineers will not be regularised under the new policy. Benefits and allowances will now be integrated into salaries, eliminating additional perks upon retirement or resignation.

Despite the policy shift, key positions, including linemen and assistant linemen, remain unfilled.

Separately, LESCO reported detecting 155,480 cases of electricity theft across five districts—Lahore, Sheikhupura, Nankana Sahib, Kasur, and Okara—during a 413-day anti-power theft campaign. The company registered 152,434 FIRs and arrested 43,586 accused. Power pilferers were charged 164.7 million detection units valued at over Rs. 6.1 billion.

The LESCO Board of Governors has approved these measures to curb inefficiencies and improve operational efficiency.
