LHC Summons Attorney General Over Ban on X (Formerly Twitter)

LAHORE – The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Tuesday summoned the Attorney General of Pakistan (AGP) to assist in the hearing of petitions challenging the ban on X, formerly known as Twitter.
A three-member bench, led by Chief Justice Aalia Neelum and comprising Justice Farooq Haider and Justice Ali Zia Bajwa, heard the case.
During the proceedings, the additional attorney general informed the court that a report from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) had been submitted regarding the matter. However, when asked for a list of government officials using the platform X, the representative stated that such data could not be provided.
Advocate Azhar Siddique, representing the petitioners, argued that the PTA and the federal government appeared to have differing views on the ban. He maintained that the move to block X was unjustified and lacked transparency.
The LHC bench expressed concern over the situation and directed the Attorney General to appear in the next hearing to assist the court in resolving the issue.
