Liaquat Mehsood Arrested

KARACHI: Two motorcyclists were killed in separate accidents involving dumpers in Karachi on Tuesday. The first incident occurred in the Ramswami area, where a garbage dumper ran over a motorcyclist. The victim, identified as 24-year-old Shahzaib, died on the spot, while his wife, who was riding with him, was injured.

Shahzaib, a resident of Garden, had been married for just four months. He worked in the textile sector. According to his father, the accident occurred when the dumper, driving at high speed, hit their motorcycle. The impact caused Shahzaib’s death and left his wife with serious injuries.

Angry locals, witnessing the tragedy, broke the dumper’s windows and set it on fire in protest. The dumper driver, Niaz Hussain, attempted to flee the scene but was arrested by police. He is currently in custody at the Garden police station.

Police filed two separate cases following the Ramswami incident. One case is against the dumper driver, Niaz, while another involves Liaquat Mehsood, President of the All Dumper Truck Owners Association. Mehsood and his armed associates are accused of firing at locals who protested the accident. The armed group then fled toward Garden while continuing to shoot.

In a second accident near Hospital Chowrangi in Landhi, a speeding dumper hit two motorcyclists, killing 20-year-old Kashan and injuring 19-year-old Javed. The increasing number of dumper-related accidents has sparked protests from citizens, demanding stricter action against reckless drivers.
