India’s western state of Maharashtra faced tragedy on Wednesday after a fatal plane crash. Media reported the death of Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar.

According to television channels, Pawar was traveling on a charter aircraft. The plane crashed and burst into flames during the journey.

Meanwhile, videos aired on news channels showed thick smoke rising from the wreckage. Burning debris lay scattered across an open field.

Reports said the aircraft had departed from Mumbai earlier in the day. Mumbai is known as India’s financial capital.

Additionally, the pilot attempted an emergency landing during the flight. The aircraft tried to land near the city of Baramati.

However, the landing attempt failed, leading to a deadly crash. Flames quickly engulfed the aircraft after impact.

Authorities have not yet released official details of the incident. Investigations are expected to begin to determine the crash cause.
