Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has directed the completion of road construction and repair projects, as well as health development initiatives, by the end of the fiscal year. The decision was made during a special meeting chaired by the Chief Minister, which reviewed ongoing road and health development projects across the province.

In the meeting, Provincial Secretary for Construction and Communications Sohail Ashraf provided a detailed briefing on the development projects. It was reported that 462 projects had been approved under the road restoration program, with work starting on 455 of them. Over 25% of the work on these projects has already been completed.

Additionally, it was mentioned that 72 schemes have been approved under Phase 2 of the road restoration program, with work ongoing on 67 of them. More than 24% of the work on these projects has been completed.

The Provincial Secretary for Communications also reported that 75% of the work on the construction and restoration of 1,236 basic health centres across Punjab has been completed. Out of these, 54 centres have been fully constructed and restored, while work on the remaining centres is progressing toward completion.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz instructed that the first phase of the health centres’ construction and restoration be completed by June 30 and that timely completion be ensured. She also directed the Planning and Development (P&D) department to generate additional resources for the projects.

Maryam Nawaz stated, “The restoration and construction of link roads across Punjab will benefit millions of citizens, and the construction of roads from fields to markets will boost economic activities. The new health clinics will provide better healthcare facilities to people in remote areas, and for the first time, rural populations will have access to the same high-quality environment as private clinics in cities.”

The Chief Minister also instructed that newly constructed basic health centres and rural health centres be personally inspected and inaugurated to ensure that the public benefits from improved healthcare facilities.
