Mobile and internet services are expected to face disruptions across various parts of Pakistan, including Islamabad and Punjab, as part of precautionary measures ahead of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protests scheduled for November 24. This development was reported by ARY News, citing sources within the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA).

According to the sources, the suspension may extend to select districts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab, alongside Islamabad, starting November 22. The measures reportedly include the activation of firewalls aimed at slowing down internet speeds and restricting access to social media platforms.

Authorities are also considering targeted service disruptions based on the evolving situation in areas of potential unrest, as per the sources.

This comes as Section 144 has been imposed in Rawalpindi, prohibiting public gatherings, rallies, and assemblies of more than four people. The decision was made during a district intelligence committee meeting chaired by Deputy Commissioner Hassan Waqar Cheema, in light of reports indicating possible “unrest,” “extremism,” and “terrorism” threats.

The notification emphasised that the move aims to maintain public order amid heightened tensions.

Former Prime Minister and PTI chairman, Imran Khan, currently incarcerated, has called for nationwide protests on November 24. The PTI leader’s call for demonstrations has intensified political activity and raised security concerns across the country.
