NADRA Issues Step-by-Step Guide for Name Change on CNIC
The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has shared a detailed procedure for citizens wishing to update their name on their Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC). The process has been simplified to ensure applicants can complete the update without unnecessary complications.

According to NADRA, applicants must first provide key documents. A computerized birth certificate issued by the Union Council or Cantonment Board is the primary requirement. In cases where the birth certificate is not available, alternatives such as an affidavit, NADRA’s Form C1 or C2, or a Dar-ul-Ifta certificate for religious conversions can be submitted.

The process begins with a visit to the nearest NADRA Registration Center, either an executive or normal office. After obtaining a token, applicants undergo biometric verification, including fingerprints and photographs. NADRA staff then update the information in the system, and applicants are asked to carefully review the printout before moving forward.

Next, the application is reviewed by an officer for approval. Applicants may need to answer basic questions about their family for verification. Once approved, the applicant receives an SMS confirmation. Processing fees vary: Rs. 2,500 for executive fast-track service in seven days, Rs. 1,500 for executive service in fifteen days, and Rs. 750 for the normal thirty-day service. Payment can be made at the counter or online.

After the selected processing period, applicants can collect their updated CNIC from the same office where they applied. It is important to bring original documents and the payment receipt for collection. NADRA also emphasized that document attestation is not required, but applicants should review all details carefully before final submission.

Officials advise citizens to keep their payment receipt and tracking ID safe until they receive their new CNIC. The authority stated that this step-by-step system is designed to make the process transparent, secure, and accessible for all applicants.
