NAMIBIA: JJ Smit’s outstanding all-round performance helped Namibia defeat Tanzania and secure a place in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. The tournament will be held in India and Sri Lanka. Namibia’s win in the first semi-final of the Africa Regional qualifiers marked their fourth consecutive World Cup qualification. They previously appeared in the 2021, 2022, and 2024 editions.

After winning the toss, Namibia chose to bat first and scored 174 runs for six wickets in their 20 overs. Early in the innings, they struggled at 41-4 in just 4.4 overs. However, captain Gerhard Erasmus and JJ Smit formed a crucial 88-run partnership for the fifth wicket. Erasmus scored 55 runs from 41 balls, hitting six fours, while Smit remained unbeaten on 61 from 43 balls with four sixes and a boundary.

In response, Tanzania managed only 111 runs for eight wickets in their 20 overs. Despite a solid knock of 31 runs from Abhik Patwa, the team could not keep up with the required run rate. Namibia’s bowlers applied consistent pressure throughout the innings. JJ Smit took three important wickets and bowled with great control. Ben Shikongo supported well by picking three wickets in his four overs.

Namibia’s balanced performance with both bat and ball ensured their memorable victory. This win confirmed their strong position among Africa’s cricketing nations. They now advance to the T20 World Cup 2026 alongside South Africa, who qualified directly. Meanwhile, Kenya and Zimbabwe will battle in the second semi-final for the remaining African spot.

The upcoming World Cup will showcase the best cricket teams from around the globe. Namibia aims to continue their impressive streak of World Cup appearances. Their recent success reflects growth and strong talent development in Namibian cricket. Fans eagerly await the team’s performance in India and Sri Lanka next year.
