NEPRA concludes hearing on K-Electric’s requests for power tariff reduction.

Islamabad – The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) on Thursday completed its hearing on K-Electric’s petition seeking a reduction in power tariffs under the monthly fuel cost adjustment (FCA) for January 2025.
K-Electric has requested a provisional decrease of PKR 4.84 per unit as part of the FCA mechanism, which adjusts electricity prices based on fluctuations in fuel costs and the generation mix.
Following the hearing, NEPRA will issue a final decision, specifying the FCA amount to be applied to customer bills and the effective adjustment duration.
Fuel charge adjustments are reviewed by NEPRA to ensure that consumers are charged fairly based on changes in global fuel prices. Customers benefit from a negative FCA when fuel costs decrease, resulting in lower electricity bills.
According to NEPRA’s decision, the negative FCA will apply to most consumer categories, except for lifeline consumers, domestic protected consumers, Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (EVCS), and prepaid electricity users across all categories who have opted for prepaid tariffs.
