Balochistan Honour Killing

QUETTA – July 23, 2025: A new development has emerged in the honour killing case in Balochistan, as the mother of the murdered woman, Bano, released a video statement defending tribal leader Sardar Sher Baz Satakzai, previously considered a prime suspect.

In the video, Bano’s mother described her daughter’s killing as a “punishment according to Baloch customs and traditions” and insisted that Sardar Sher Baz had no involvement in the crime.

“Bano acted against the traditions of our tribe. That’s why she was punished,” her mother said.
“Sardar Sher Baz Satakzai is innocent. He had no role in this incident,” she added, appealing to authorities for the immediate release of the tribal chief and other detained individuals.

However, the statement has drawn criticism from human rights activists and legal experts.

Prominent activist Farzana Bari dismissed the mother’s statement, saying:

“This is not a story to sell. A serious crime has occurred, and it must be punished. Video evidence exists.”

Similarly, lawyer Liaquat Gabol condemned efforts to shield influential figures:

“It’s unfortunate that attempts are being made to protect the tribal leader. If such individuals go unpunished, stopping such crimes in the future will become even harder.”
