ISLAMABAD: Internet connectivity in Pakistan is set to improve significantly with the upcoming installation of a modern undersea cable linking Africa to the South Asian nation.

Sources indicate that the cable installation, which is in its final stages, will be completed in the coming days. Part of the global 2Africa Pearls project, the cable spans an impressive 45,000 kilometres and has a capacity of 180 terabits per second.

The advanced cable system is expected to enhance internet speeds across the country, particularly benefiting social media platforms and other online services. The project includes 46 landing stations across 33 countries, making it a crucial addition to the global digital infrastructure.

Pakistan’s inclusion in the 2Africa Pearls initiative strengthens its connectivity to Gulf countries and India, promising a significant boost to the nation’s digital capabilities.

Currently, Pakistan ranks 198th globally in internet speed, according to a report by the World Population Review. The new undersea cable is expected to address this issue, providing faster and more reliable internet access for users nationwide.
