Over 4.9 Million Mobile SIMs to Be Blocked Due to Expired CNICs

Islamabad: Authorities have decided to block over 4.9 million mobile SIMs that are registered under expired or inactive Computerized National Identity Cards (CNICs). The Ministry of Interior has officially directed the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to begin the process.

According to sources, this decision was made based on recommendations from NADRA to ensure the accuracy of national records. Mobile SIMs registered on cancelled, expired, or deceased individuals’ CNICs will be deactivated in phases.

SIM Blocking Schedule:

  • SIMs on expired CNICs from 2017: To be blocked on June 30.

  • SIMs on expired CNICs from 2018: To be blocked on July 31.

  • SIMs on expired CNICs from 2019 and 2020: To be blocked on August 31 and September 30.

  • SIMs on expired CNICs from 2021 and 2022: To be blocked on October 31 and November 30.

  • SIMs on expired CNICs from 2023 to 2025: To be blocked on December 31.

Officials confirmed that a total of 4,906,611 inactive CNICs have been identified.
