Pakistan and Uzbekistan aim for $2 billion trade target: PM Shehbaz Sharif

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has emphasized the need for a comprehensive roadmap to enhance bilateral trade between Pakistan and Uzbekistan, with the goal of reaching $2 billion, as agreed upon by both nations’ leadership.
During a meeting with Uzbekistan’s Ambassador Alisher Tukhtaev, PM Shehbaz reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to expanding cooperation in key sectors, including mining and minerals, railways, special economic zones, banking, tourism, culture, and renewable energy.
The prime minister extended warm greetings to Uzbekistan’s president, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, expressing gratitude for the hospitality during his recent visit to Tashkent. He expressed satisfaction with the progress made in bilateral relations, which included the establishment of a High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council and the signing of multiple agreements and Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) in various fields.
Following his return from Uzbekistan, PM Shehbaz directed relevant ministers to ensure timely implementation of the agreements and decisions made during the visit.
Ambassador Tukhtaev conveyed President Mirziyoyev’s commitment to strengthening economic ties with Pakistan. He also confirmed that President Mirziyoyev has accepted PM Shehbaz’s invitation for an official visit to Pakistan later this year, with the dates to be finalized through diplomatic channels.
