The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has decided to ban the registration of new medical and dental colleges, following government directives, according to sources.

The decision, aimed at addressing faculty shortages, means that no new applications submitted after January 5 will be considered. However, 13 applications received before the deadline are still under review, sources revealed.

Currently, Pakistan has 121 private and 66 public medical and dental colleges. Officials say the halt in registrations is necessary to ensure the availability of qualified faculty and maintain education standards in existing institutions.
