LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is expected to announce the new head coach for the national cricket team next week, as the selection process nears completion.

Sources indicate that following the May 4 deadline for applications, a shortlist of candidates is being finalised. One of the leading contenders is Mike Hesson, currently serving as the head coach of Islamabad United. Hesson, who previously coached New Zealand, has already held initial talks with PCB officials. However, his demand to bring his support staff remains a sticking point, with the board yet to agree on that condition.

The PCB is also considering local coaching options. Among the names under discussion are Saqlain Mushtaq, Misbah-ul-Haq, and Abdul Razzaq, who has expressed keen interest in taking up the role with the national side.
