ISLAMABAD: Pakistani citizens planning to travel abroad must obtain a passport from the Directorate General of Immigration and Passports (DGI&P), as it is a mandatory requirement for international travel. The passport serves as the official document confirming a citizen’s identity while abroad and grants the right to exit and re-enter the country. Additionally, citizens holding a valid Pakistani passport are entitled to protection from the country’s diplomatic and consular representatives overseas.

As of January 2024, the DGI&P has set the following passport fees:

  • 36-page passport (5 years validity): Rs 4,000 for normal processing; Rs 5,000 for urgent processing.
  • 72-page passport (5 years validity): Rs 5,500 for normal processing; Rs 9,000 for urgent processing.
  • 100-page passport (5 years validity): Rs 6,000 for normal processing; Rs 12,000 for urgent processing.
  • 36-page passport (10 years validity): Rs 4,500 for normal processing; Rs 7,500 for urgent processing.
  • 72-page passport (10 years validity): Rs 8,250 for normal processing; Rs 13,500 for urgent processing.
  • 100-page passport (10 years validity): Rs 9,000 for normal processing; Rs 12,000 for urgent processing.

However, in March 2024, passport fees were increased as follows:

  • The normal fee for a 36-page passport (5 years validity) rose to Rs 4,500, while the urgent processing fee increased from Rs 5,000 to Rs 7,500.
  • For a 36-page passport (10 years validity), the normal fee increased to Rs 6,700, with the urgent fee now set at Rs 11,200.
  • The fee for a 72-page passport (5 years validity) is now Rs 8,200 for normal processing and Rs 13,500 for urgent processing.
  • The fee for a 100-page passport (10 years validity) has surged to Rs 12,400 for normal processing, with the urgent fee reaching Rs 20,200.

These updated fees are part of the government’s ongoing efforts to streamline the passport issuance process and improve services, but the price hikes are expected to impact many citizens applying for travel documents.
