Pakistan Inflation Hits 4.70% Amid Rising Food and Fuel Prices

Pakistan has recorded an annual inflation rate of 4.70 percent, according to the latest report by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS). Weekly inflation increased by 0.37 percent. Officials said prices of 13 commodities rose, while 11 others declined during the week. The report reflects the ongoing changes in the cost of living across the country. Analysts noted that households continue to feel the effects of fluctuating prices.

The report highlighted specific price increases. Chicken rose by 35.48 paisa per kilogram, while domestic LPG cylinders increased by 200 rupees. Bananas went up by more than 7 rupees per dozen. Other items that became more expensive included beef, mutton, jaggery, and cigarettes. Experts said these price hikes contribute to higher daily expenses for consumers.

Conversely, prices of some essential goods decreased. Tomatoes fell by 7.14 rupees per kilogram, eggs by 20 rupees per dozen, and onions by 4 rupees per kilogram. Potatoes became cheaper by 1.67 rupees per kilogram. A 20-kg bag of flour declined by 54.53 rupees. Additionally, masoor dal, moong dal, sugar, and ghee also saw price reductions.

Some staple items remained stable over the week. Prices of 27 other goods, including bread, fresh milk, and yogurt, did not change. Officials said stability in these items provides relief to consumers. Analysts emphasized that monitoring weekly changes is important for understanding inflation trends. These shifts show how certain necessities impact household budgets.
