Pakistan Navy’s second Hangor-class submarine PNS/M SHUSHUK launched in China

Pakistan Navy’s second Hangor-class submarine, PNS/M SHUSHUK (Desig), was ceremoniously launched at the Shuangliu Base of Wuchang Shipbuilding Industry Group Company Ltd in Wuhan, China. The event was attended by Vice Admiral Ovais Ahmed Bilgrami, Vice Chief of the Naval Staff, as the Chief Guest.

 

Speaking at the ceremony, Vice Admiral Bilgrami highlighted the growing importance of maritime security in the evolving regional geo-strategic landscape. He reaffirmed the Pakistan Navy’s commitment to safeguarding national interests and ensuring a secure maritime environment.

He further emphasized that the state-of-the-art Hangor-class submarines will significantly contribute to maintaining the regional balance of power and maritime stability. Equipped with advanced weaponry and modern sensors, these submarines will enhance Pakistan’s defensive and operational capabilities.

Vice Admiral Bilgrami expressed his appreciation for China Shipbuilding & Offshore International Company Ltd (CSOC) and commended the steady progress of the Hangor-class submarine project. He also acknowledged the strong Pakistan-China defense partnership, which continues to strengthen through such strategic collaborations.

The Hangor-class submarines are equipped with advanced technologies, including:

  • Air-Independent Propulsion (AIP) systems for extended underwater endurance
  • Heavyweight torpedoes and anti-ship cruise missiles for precision attacks
  • Anti-access/area denial capabilities to counter maritime threats

With these advanced capabilities, the PNS/M SHUSHUK and other Hangor-class submarines will play a crucial role in enhancing Pakistan’s maritime defense and ensuring security in the region’s waters.
