Pakistan, Taliban-led Afghanistan Upgrade Diplomatic Ties with New Ambassador Appointments

In a key diplomatic development, Pakistan has appointed a new ambassador to Afghanistan, a move that was met with a reciprocal gesture from the Taliban government, which has elevated its top envoy in Islamabad to the rank of ambassador.
The Afghan Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed Pakistan’s decision, describing it as a constructive step toward enhancing ties between the neighbouring countries. In an official statement, the Taliban administration noted that the move would contribute to strengthening bilateral relations and improving mutual cooperation.
Pakistan’s decision follows a period of growing diplomatic engagement and consultations between the two sides. Regional observers have termed the development as a positive signal, indicating a willingness by both countries to pursue deeper collaboration.
Diplomatic analysts suggest that the enhanced representation could lead to more focused discussions on major issues such as trade, border security, and the status of Afghan refugees in Pakistan—challenges that have shaped relations between Islamabad and Kabul for decades.
