Pakistan to observe National Day of Thanksgiving on May 16

Islamabad: The federal government has announced that Friday, May 16, will be observed as a National Day of Thanksgiving to honour the historic success of Operation “Bunyān al-Marsūs” and to pay tribute to the Pakistan Armed Forces.

According to Federal Information Minister Atta Tarar, the day will begin with Quran recitations and special prayers in mosques across the country. A 31-gun salute will be held in Islamabad, while 21-gun salutes will take place in the provincial capitals.

Other key events include flag-raising ceremonies in federal and provincial capitals. Guard-changing ceremonies at Mazar-e-Quaid and Mazar-e-Iqbal. Floral tributes at martyrs’ memorials and meetings with families of martyrs to honour their sacrifices.

The main ceremony will be held at Pakistan Monument, Islamabad, on Friday night. The event will be attended by prominent figures from all walks of life.

The Prime Minister will be the chief guest, joined by the Chair of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee and heads of the armed forces.
