Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan met Turkish Ambassador Dr. Irfan Neziroglu in Islamabad to review bilateral trade.

The meeting, held under Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s directions, focused on increasing Pakistan’s rice exports and strengthening agricultural trade cooperation.

Jam Kamal highlighted Pakistan’s excellent rice harvest this season, ensuring both quality and sufficient exportable surplus for international markets.

He noted global competition from India and Vietnam has put downward pressure on prices, despite Pakistan maintaining strong export volumes.

The minister shared a pricing support mechanism with Türkiye to ensure Pakistan’s rice remains competitive, covering basmati and non-basmati varieties.

Both sides discussed activating government-to-government trade channels, expanding tariff-rate quotas, easing import licensing, and enhancing collaboration for bulk rice procurement.

The Turkish ambassador welcomed the proposals, reaffirmed economic ties, and both sides agreed on technical consultations, trade delegations, and expanding Pakistan’s footprint in Türkiye.
