Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Interior has confirmed the execution of a Pakistani national convicted of heroin smuggling. According to reports by the Saudi Press Agency, the individual, identified as Mohammad Karam Mohammad Afzal, was arrested while attempting to smuggle heroin into the Kingdom.

Authorities stated that the case was thoroughly investigated, with all evidence and testimonies presented in court. Upon confirming the charges, the court found him guilty of committing a serious crime considered to be “spreading corruption on earth” and sentenced him to death.

The appeals court upheld the initial ruling, and the Royal Court granted final approval for the execution. The sentence has now been carried out.

Saudi Arabia enforces some of the world’s strictest anti-drug laws. According to Saudi law, smuggling or trafficking significant quantities of drugs, such as heroin, cocaine, or other narcotics, is punishable by death, particularly if the quantity exceeds 50 grams.

In cases involving smaller amounts, penalties may include lengthy prison terms or heavy fines, depending on the circumstances and whether it is a repeat offence. However, for major offences, the consequences are often severe and swift.
