A team of researchers at the University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) has successfully developed a new breed of chicken named Uni-Gold, specifically tailored to thrive in Pakistan’s hot climate.

The Uni-Gold chicken produces more than 200 eggs per year, offering a promising boost to poultry production, particularly in rural and low-resource farming communities.

Designed with local conditions in mind, the breed is heat-tolerant, requires minimal care, and is easy to feed—factors that make it highly suitable for small-scale farmers and backyard poultry setups. Experts believe Uni-Gold could play a key role in improving food security and supporting the livelihoods of rural families.

According to university officials, the development of Uni-Gold is part of ongoing efforts to enhance domestic agriculture through innovation and sustainability.
