ISLAMABAD: The National Cyber Emergency Response Team (PKCERT) has issued a security advisory highlighting a significant vulnerability in Microsoft’s Windows operating system that could compromise users’ personal data and system security.

According to the advisory, the identified vulnerability poses a serious threat, as it could potentially allow hackers to access and steal sensitive information, including user credentials, domain names, and passwords. The flaw in the system can be exploited remotely, allowing unauthorised access to personal data without the need to open files.

The security issue affects Windows versions 7 through 11, putting a large number of users at risk. PKCERT has urged users to be cautious when interacting with shared drives, folders, and email attachments, as these could be entry points for hackers. Additionally, the team recommends using strong, complex passwords and changing them regularly to minimise the risk of unauthorised access.
