Pakistan’s Top Military Commander Meets Bangladesh Chief Adviser Yunus

Pakistan’s Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) General Sahir Shamshad Mirza met Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus in Dhaka on Saturday to discuss bilateral trade, investment, and defense cooperation, signaling a gradual warming of ties between the two South Asian nations.
According to a statement from Yunus’s office, the meeting took place at the Jamuna State Guest House, where both sides held detailed discussions on Bangladesh–Pakistan relations and mutual areas of interest.
General Mirza highlighted the shared history, culture, and people-to-people connections between the two countries and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening cooperation across multiple sectors, especially trade, connectivity, and investment.
“Our two countries will support each other,” said Gen. Mirza, noting that a two-way shipping route between Karachi and Chittagong is already operational, while a Dhaka–Karachi air route is expected to open soon.

During the talks, both leaders also exchanged views on global and regional developments, including the Middle East tensions and the growing misuse of social media by non-state actors to spread misinformation and destabilize societies.
Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus cautioned against the rapid spread of fake news, emphasizing the need for global cooperation to combat disinformation.
“Fake news and disinformation have flooded social media. It is being used to sow chaos,” Yunus said. “There must be a concerted global effort to combat this menace.”
The meeting marks a positive step in Pakistan–Bangladesh engagement, with both sides expressing hope for enhanced economic and defense partnerships in the near future.
