Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has expressed confidence that the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy will be hosted in Pakistan. Speaking to the media in Lahore, Naqvi stated that the PCB is in constant contact with the International Cricket Council (ICC), and he remains hopeful that the tournament will be held in Pakistan.

Naqvi emphasised that it would be unfair for Pakistan to travel to India for the event while India does not play in Pakistan. “We hope the Champions Trophy will be held in Pakistan. Whatever decision is made, we will ensure that it is in the best interest of Pakistan,” he said.

During the conversation, the PCB Chairman also highlighted the recent upgrades to the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. He mentioned that the renovation work, which began on October 10, is progressing well, and the stadium’s seating capacity will increase from 35,000 to 40,000. “The view for cricket fans will be much improved,” he added, referring to the enhanced spectator experience.

Naqvi also expressed a desire for Rawalpindi’s stadium to be ready for international matches as well. He noted that if he had received the report on Rawalpindi Stadium earlier, it would have allowed for better planning. Nevertheless, he is confident that the PCB will achieve favourable outcomes for Pakistan during the upcoming ICC meeting.

The future of the ICC Champions Trophy will be discussed at an ICC Board meeting on Friday, where a proposal to adopt a hybrid model for the tournament will be presented. Sources suggest that efforts will be made to convince Pakistan, although the country has already rejected the hybrid model. If the decision goes against Pakistan, the PCB is expected to consult the government before responding.
