PDMA Issues Weather Alert for Heatwave, Dust Storms, and Rain in Punjab

Lahore: The Pakistan Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a weather alert warning of a heatwave, dust storms, and rainfall expected across most districts of Punjab from April 16 to April 20.

According to a statement from the PDMA spokesperson, strong winds, thunderstorms, and rainfall are likely in areas including Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Attock, Chakwal, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Jhelum, and Gujranwala.

Districts such as Lahore, Kasur, Sialkot, Narowal, Okara, Faisalabad, Toba Tek Singh, Jhang, Khushab, Sargodha, and Mianwali may also experience dust storms and rain during the forecast period. The PDMA has also cautioned about a possible intensification of heat across the plains of Punjab towards the end of April.

PDMA Director General Irfan Ali Kathia shared that, under the directions of the Chief Minister of Punjab, all district administrations have been placed on high alert. Relevant departments—including School Education, Health, Irrigation, Communication and Works (C&W), Local Government, and Livestock—have been instructed to take precautionary measures.

In addition, departments such as the Information Department, WASA, Punjab Police, and Civil Defense have also been alerted to prepare for the anticipated weather changes.

Citizens are strongly advised to remain indoors during thunderstorms and lightning, and to avoid open areas during extreme weather conditions.
