PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) has ordered the suspension of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) scholarship entry test in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Kurram district due to ongoing security issues in the region.

The entry test, which was scheduled to take place today, December 26, has been temporarily halted following a petition citing the unstable security situation in Kurram. The petitioner argued that the deteriorating conditions in the area made it impossible to hold the test as planned. In response to the concerns, the petitioner also requested the court to arrange for an examination hall in Sadda, a safer location, to accommodate students from Kurram.

The court has directed HEC officials to appear before the court on December 31 for further proceedings. In the interim, the court has ordered the relocation of the entry test to Sadda, ensuring that students from Kurram, as well as other areas such as Balochistan and FATA, who are allotted 100 seats by the HEC, are not deprived of the opportunity to take the test.

The decision comes as a significant step in addressing the challenges faced by students in regions affected by security concerns. The court’s intervention is expected to provide relief to many students who would otherwise have been unable to participate in the important exam.
