PIA plans to reactivate grounded aircraft to boost fleet operations

KARACHI: Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Khurram Mushtaq has announced plans to bring several grounded aircraft back into service starting next year. The airline intends to reactivate Boeing 777 and Airbus aircraft over the next six months, which will increase its operational fleet to 24 aircraft.
Currently, PIA’s fleet consists of 34 aircraft, but only 16 are operational. However, in a remarkable effort, the PIA team has already managed to activate three aircraft within just three weeks. These include a Boeing 777, an Airbus 320, and one ATR aircraft, bringing the total number of active aircraft to 19.
