PM Shehbaz Orders Business Plan to Reduce $4 Billion Shipping Costs

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed officials to prepare a detailed business plan for the Pakistan National Shipping Corporation (PNSC) within the next two weeks. The plan should include steps to help cut the annual $4 billion shipping expense currently affecting Pakistan’s economy.

While presiding over a high-level meeting regarding PNSC affairs in Islamabad, the Prime Minister emphasised the urgency of swiftly leasing ships to expand Pakistan’s shipping fleet.

He pointed out that Pakistan is spending a large amount—around $4 billion every year—on maritime trade because of the limited number of ships in the PNSC fleet.

During the briefing, officials shared that PNSC currently operates 10 ships of different types with a total cargo capacity of 724,643 tonnes.

The meeting was attended by Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Khan Cheema, Minister for Maritime Affairs Junaid Anwar Chaudhry, and senior PNSC officials.
