LAHORE: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif expressed gratitude after the Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute (PKLI) completed 1,000 successful liver transplants. He said the institute, started in 2017, had grown into a strong institution serving over four million patients. He praised the medical team’s efforts and said the achievement reflected the government’s focus on healthcare. The premier thanked Allah Almighty for this success and called PKLI a symbol of hope for countless families.
PM Shehbaz recalled that conspiracies in the past had tried to weaken the institution. He said the abolition of its Board of Governors had made PKLI non-functional. However, after assuming office in 2022, he worked to restore its full capacity. He noted that 80% of PKLI patients receive free treatment, helping poor families get world-class care. He also appreciated the dedication of the doctors, especially Dr. Saeed Akhtar, for their service to humanity.
The Prime Minister also praised Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif for her active role in PKLI’s revival. He said her efforts ensured the hospital’s smooth operations and continued support for patients. He added that the institute now stands as one of Pakistan’s leading healthcare facilities. According to him, such achievements show what can be done through teamwork, vision, and sincerity. He reaffirmed his government’s commitment to improving health services nationwide.
Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz inaugurated the fourth phase of the Prime Minister’s Youth Laptop Scheme 2025. He said the initiative reflected his government’s investment in education, technology, and skills for young people. The ceremony was attended by officials, students, and alumni from previous programs. He said the youth are the country’s future and deserve every opportunity to learn and grow. Special documentaries were shown highlighting success stories from past participants.
Addressing the gathering, PM Shehbaz called the day historic for youth empowerment in Pakistan. He said the laptop scheme continues the vision he began in 2010 as Punjab Chief Minister. Despite floods and economic challenges, he said, the government never reduced funds for education and youth development. He emphasized that knowledge, innovation, and hard work are key to national progress. Concluding, he vowed to keep supporting education and healthcare for a better Pakistan.
