Islamabad – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has lauded U.S. President Donald Trump for his “effective role” in de-escalating tensions between Pakistan and India, calling him a “messenger of peace.”

Speaking at an event hosted by the U.S. Embassy, PM Shehbaz stated that the Pahalgam incident was a false-flag operation by India, and Pakistan responded with restraint and responsibility despite provocations.

He said Pakistan offered a neutral international investigation, but India responded with aggression, targeting civilians. In defence, Pakistan shot down six Indian fighter jets.

The Prime Minister emphasised Pakistan’s commitment to regional peace, stability, and economic development, and highlighted efforts to strengthen economic ties with the U.S.

He also noted Pakistan’s sacrifices in the global fight against terrorism, stating the country lost over 90,000 lives and suffered economic losses exceeding $150 billion. By 2018, he said, terrorism had been significantly contained.
