Islamabad : Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced the reopening of gas connections for domestic consumers across Pakistan.

Speaking at the launch ceremony of RLNG gas connections in Islamabad, the Prime Minister said that providing gas to households had been a long-standing public demand, which the government has now fulfilled.

He recalled that during the PDM government in 2022, gas supply was a major challenge. “Despite people’s demand, gas was simply unavailable at the time — we had to apologize to the public,” he said.

PM Shehbaz added that the government has already received hundreds of thousands of applications for new gas connections, and the process will be implemented in phases.

Highlighting the government’s previous achievements, Shehbaz Sharif said that in 2013, load-shedding lasted more than 20 hours a day, but the PML-N government eliminated the energy crisis through tireless efforts.

He vowed to continue working day and night to put Pakistan back on the path of progress and prosperity.

The government has announced new guidelines for domestic gas connections, allowing consumers to apply online for RLNG supply. This major step comes after a three-year ban on new connections.

Applicants who already paid the demand note will also benefit under the new rules. The move is expected to improve access to clean, affordable energy across Pakistan. The initiative also supports the government’s push for digital services and public convenience.

Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik chaired a meeting to review the plan for expanding RLNG connections. Officials discussed setting a high target for new connections in the first year. Malik stressed the need for a simple and reliable process for all consumers.

He highlighted that RLNG is about 30% cheaper than LPG and safer for homes. The policy aims to lower costs and improve safety for households nationwide.
