PMD Predicts Rain and Dust Storms Across Pakistan as Heatwave Eases

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast a much-needed break from the intense heatwave gripping the country, with rain, dust storms, and thunderstorms expected to bring temporary relief in several regions.

According to the Met Office, a pre-monsoon weather system is set to move into the eastern parts of Sindh starting Saturday evening. Scattered rain, gusty winds, and thunderstorms are anticipated in areas such as Tharparkar and Umerkot, providing a welcome respite from soaring temperatures.

The weather system is expected to intensify on Sunday, with strong winds and rainfall likely in several districts, including Ghotki, Sukkur, Khairpur, Jacobabad, Shikarpur, Mithi, Badin, Mirpur Khas, Umarkot, Thatta, Karachi, and Hyderabad.

In addition to Sindh, the PMD has also warned of dust storms, rainfall, and possible isolated hailstorms from today to June 16 in the northern regions, including Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Murree, Galliyat, and several parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The pre-monsoon showers are also expected to impact Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, and other areas across upper and central Punjab. Rain and dust storms are likely to reach parts of southern Punjab and Balochistan’s Zhob, Barkhan, and Musakhel districts during this period.

The PMD noted that moist air currents are entering the upper parts of the country, while a westerly weather system is forecast to approach by June 14.
