Powerful Earthquake Hits Philippines, 20 Dead and Buildings Destroyed

A powerful earthquake of 6.9 magnitude struck the central coastal area of the Philippines, causing major destruction. The quake happened at night, making people panic and run out of their homes. Many were frightened as the ground shook strongly.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the earthquake hit around 10 PM local time with a depth of 10 kilometers. Reports from the New York Times say that 20 people lost their lives and at least 37 others were injured in different incidents caused by the quake.

In Cebu city, four buildings collapsed completely, and three government offices were damaged. Six bridges and one road also suffered heavy damage. Rescue teams are working hard to search for people trapped under the debris.

Aftershocks were felt in many areas, increasing fear among the residents. Rescue operations are still going on, and heavy machinery has been sent from nearby regions to help. People spent the night outside in fear of more shocks.

Authorities have started sending water, medicine, and other supplies to the affected areas. The powerful earthquake has left behind major destruction, and officials fear the number of deaths may rise as rescue efforts continue.
