PPP Decides to Form Government in AJK, New PM to Be Announced by Tuesday

Islamabad : The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has decided to form its government in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) through a no-confidence motion, with the announcement of the new Prime Minister expected by Tuesday.
According to party sources, October 27 — observed annually as Black Day to mark India’s illegal occupation of Kashmir — is the reason for delaying the announcement. The no-confidence motion will be tabled after Black Day events conclude.
The decision was made during a high-level meeting chaired by PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari. After the meeting, PPP AJK President Chaudhry Yasin told reporters:
“We are set to form our government in Azad Kashmir. We have the required majority. If Prime Minister Chaudhry Anwar-ul-Haq does not resign, we will move a no-confidence motion.”

There is intense competition among four key PPP leaders for the position of AJK Prime Minister:
-
Chaudhry Yasin (PPP AJK President)
-
Chaudhry Latif Akbar (Speaker AJK Assembly)
-
Sardar Yaqoob (Senior Vice President PPP)
-
Raja Faisal Mumtaz Rathore (Secretary General PPP)
Sources indicate that Chaudhry Latif Akbar is currently the front-runner, though some members have proposed that Chaudhry Yasin, being the party’s president, should lead the government.
The final decision will be made by Asif Ali Zardari, while the official announcement is expected to be made by PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari in the coming days.
