Islamabad: Security arrangements for the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protest in Islamabad have cost the national exchequer more than 500 million PKR. The three-day protest, held from November 23 to November 26, saw extensive security measures in place, including thousands of security personnel and the use of heavy equipment.

Over 800 containers were placed across various locations in Islamabad to seal off key areas, with the rental cost alone amounting to 72.8 million PKR. Additionally, the Federal Police spent 328 million PKR on the purchase of 35,000 tear gas shells, rubber bullets, and firearms.

To manage the large-scale security operation, 12,000 personnel from the Federal Police, Punjab Police, Sindh Police, and the Frontier Corps (FC) were deployed across the city. Their accommodation and logistics, including meals and fuel for police vehicles, added another 170 million PKR to the total expenditure.

The police also spent 110 million PKR for the procurement of rubber bullets and 2,500 firearms used during the protest. Sources indicate that the total expenditure on security arrangements, including the costs for containers, riot control equipment, and personnel deployment, exceeds 500 million PKR.
