PTI Protests Heavily Impact Pakistan’s Economy
The ongoing protests by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) have caused significant damage to the country’s economy, with sources estimating losses of over 600 billion rupees. The protests, which have escalated in various parts of the country, have resulted in daily economic losses of around 190 billion rupees, affecting multiple sectors.
According to reports, Pakistan’s GDP has suffered a direct loss of more than 432 billion rupees in just three days of protests. The government has also faced a sharp decline in tax revenue, with losses of approximately 78 billion rupees during the same period. Additionally, the country’s export sector incurred losses of 50 billion rupees due to disruptions in trade activities.
The protests have also led to a decrease in foreign direct investment, with an estimated loss of 10 billion rupees in just three days. The costs associated with maintaining law and order, as well as the damage to public property, have further compounded the economic strain.
The nationwide internet shutdowns, aimed at curbing the protests, have particularly impacted the IT and telecom sectors. Numerous orders were cancelled, causing significant disruptions in business operations. The closure of key business areas, such as Islamabad’s Blue Area, led to a loss of millions of rupees in revenue.
Furthermore, the protests have caused shortages in essential goods, leading to price hikes that burdened ordinary citizens. With the supply chain disrupted, residents were forced to pay higher prices for everyday items.
